Glass Tree • San Michele Salentino
Restoration of an enchanting complex of trulli and lamie immersed in the tranquil Apulian countryside.
This meticulous renovation involved four trulli and three lamie, seamlessly blending contemporary elements with the original structure. A highlight of the design is the incorporation of a modern living room within the original complex, featuring a fully transparent space with a Corten steel frame. At the heart of the house, an ancient olive tree stands as a symbol of harmony with the natural environment. Step inside and you’ll be enveloped in an archaic and rustic atmosphere, where the boundary between indoor and outdoor spaces dissolves effortlessly. Large pivoting windows offer breathtaking views of the swimming pool, inviting year-round enjoyment. The bathrooms and kitchen have unique features, with sinks and an island made from locally carved monoliths. Parts of the walls have been carefully restored to showcase the beauty of the local stone, while other areas have been treated with organic lime wash and rustic plaster. Extensive excavation and landscaping was undertaken to create a spacious courtyard, providing an outdoor space that complements the overall design.
