Glass Cube • Ostuni
This renovation and conservation project involved a set of trulli and lamie in Puglia, in the countryside of Ostuni, an authentic rural paradise just a stone's throw from the sea.
This 150 square meter house has an outdoor area with a swimming pool finished in cocciopesto and surrounded by centuries-old olive trees. Inside the trulli, each of the bedrooms is completed by an en-suite bathroom. The bathrooms are nestled in alcoves and enriched with transparencies and wash basins carved from local stone. The kitchen, designed and built on site, is an iron structure set into the stone walls of a lamia. The living area is characterized by an extension obtained thanks to the creation of a glass cube, a completely transparent bioclimatic greenhouse in which a majestic centuries-old olive tree towers. The structure is essential, linear and rational, composed of a series of structural elements in béton brut connected by vertical and horizontal glass walls. The furniture consists of organic objects that contrast with the horizontal concrete surfaces. Outside, a monolithic barbecue obtained by a block of local stone is combined with a wood-fired oven and an outdoor kitchen.
